Iced Tea

Carly’s sandwich café serves the best iced tea in town. Their decaffeinated tea is 96\% caffeine-free as compared to their regular caffeinated tea. If a regular glass of iced tea is 16 ounces, how many ounces of decaffeinated tea would you have to drink at Carly’s cafe to get the equivalent amount of caffeine found in three glasses of regular iced tea?

SOLUTION
The regular tea has 100\% caffeine whereas the decaf tea has 100\%-96\%=4\% caffeine.
The regular tea has 100\div 4=25 times more caffeine than the decaf tea.
In terms of caffeine,
1 glass of regular is equivalent to 25 glasses of decaf,
2 glasses of regular is equivalent to 50 glasses of decaf,
3 glasses of regular is equivalent to 75 glasses of decaf.
You have to drink 75 glasses of decaf tea to get the equivalent amount of caffeine found in three glasses of regular tea or you have to drink 75\times 16=1200 ounces.

Answer: 1200 ounces.
